The Curators ad Litem and Reporting Officer Panel is a list of appointed professionals from which a Sheriff can select an individual to act as Curator ad Litem and Reporting Officer.

Role of Curators ad Litem and Reporting Officers

Curators ad Litem and Reporting Officers are appointed in cases where the Sheriff requires an independent individual to contact and interview the various relevant associated parties involved in a case and report to the Court.

Appointing the panel

There is a statutory requirement to reappoint a panel every three years.   

Stirling Council is currently updating the membership of the Curators ad Litem and Reporting Officer Panel and is looking for applicants to join the list of panel members for the 2025 to 2028 period.

Who can apply to be on the panel

Those with the appropriate qualifications can apply. Parties outwith the Stirling local authority area may apply, as well as those based locally.

Applicants should meet the relevant eligibility criteria set out below, and have demonstrable experience and knowledge of adoption and permanence law and of practice in relation to child welfare. For example, this could mean you are:

  • a solicitor or a solicitor advocate holding a current practicing certificate from the Law Society of Scotland or are a former solicitor or solicitor advocate who held such a practicing certificate and has not been struck from the roll of solicitors
  • are an advocate who is a practicing member of the Faculty of Advocates
  • are a social worker with a current unconditional registration with the Scottish Social Services Council and has a knowledge of the Scottish legal system
