Who is a carer, and where can carers get support

Find out if you are a carer, and where you can go to find help.

Am I a carer?

If you provide unpaid care or support to a partner, child, relative, or friend who needs your help due to disability, illness, frailty or substance use, then you are a carer.

Unpaid carers are those that provide care out with a work contract or voluntary work regardless of whether they are in receipt of welfare benefits, pensions or income from other types of employment.

Support for adult carers

If you are an Adult Carer, over the age of 18 and no longer a pupil attending school then support is available for you. You can visit the Clackmannanshire and Stirling Health and Social Care Partnership website for further information including access to the Carers Support Pack which includes information on many local support organisations.

Support for young carers

If you are a young carer, under the age of 18, or have attained the age of 18 and remain a pupil at school then please contact Stirling Council or speak with a teacher at your school.

Alternatively, you can contact Stirling Carers Centre who are funded to support all carers across the Stirling Council area.

Care services

There are many care services across Stirling and Clackmannanshire which is the area covered by the local Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP).  To find a care service you can follow the link below and search under the location required.

All of the care services are registered with the Care Inspectorate to make sure they meet required standards.
