Storm Eowyn closures and disruptions
Go to ContactThe Met Office has issued a rare red weather warning for very strong winds for southern parts of the Stirling Council area due to Storm Eowyn.
The warning will be in effect from 10am to 5pm tomorrow (24 January), with very dangerous conditions and signification disruption expected.
According to the Met Office, winds could reach 100mph in exposed areas and there could be a risk to life due to flying debris, power cuts and damage to buildings.
Police Scotland has urged people to avoid any form of travel in areas impacted by the red warning, with very dangerous driving conditions and significant delays anticipated.

As a result of the forecasted extreme weather conditions, there will be disruption to a wide range of council services on Friday 24 January:
- All schools and nurseries will be closed. Families will also be contacted directly about this and any specific learning arrangements.
- All scheduled bin collections will be suspended on Friday the 24 January. Do not present your bin for collection and ensure it is safely secured. We will provide an update on affected collections as soon as possible.
- All of our Household Waste and Recycling Centres will be closed.
- All council libraries, buildings (including Customer First), community centres and venues will be closed. Those who have made bookings for council facilities will be contacted directly.
- All council car parks will be closed
- All burial services will be cancelled - families will have already been contacted directly by funeral directors about this.
- All Registrar services will be cancelled.
- The Peak and Stirling Sports Village will be closed.
- The C60 bus service will be suspended. Please check with operators about the availability local bus services with disruption expected.
- McGills bus services will be suspended on Friday between 9am and 6pm.
- The Park and Ride Services at Castleview and Springkerse will be suspended.
- Care at home house visits will take place when it is safe to do, prioritising the most vulnerable. If you have vulnerable neighbours, and if it is safe for you to do so, please check in on them.
- Public facilities at Stirling Bus Station will be closed.
In the event of any power outages that affect you or somebody you know, please call 105 for support from SSEN.
Our roads and land services teams will be closely monitoring the road network to remove any fallen debris, and the council is working alongside local and national resilience partnerships that have been stood up to respond to the situation.
Multiple other weather warnings are also in place for the council area, including amber warnings for wind between 6am tomorrow and 6pm on Saturday, and a yellow warning for snow covering northern parts of the council area between 6am tomorrow and midnight.
A further yellow warning for wind is in place on Saturday until 3pm that covers the whole of the council area as the challenging weather conditions continue deep into the weekend.
