Crianlarich Nursery closure decision

Go to Schools and learning

Decision of the Committee

At its meeting on 26 September 2024, Stirling Council’s Children and Young People’s Committee approved Schools, Learning and Education’s proposal to permanently close Crianlarich Nursery.

The nursery has been temporarily closed since March 2023 with children accessing nursery provision in Killin. It was agreed that permanent closure was the most appropriate action due to the recruitment challenges that have been ongoing in relation to staffing Crianlarich Nursery, and due to the small number of children eligible to attend.

Councillors did make an amendment to the recommendations in the report and have approved the provision of parental mileage as transport assistance to attend nursery. This provision would extend to children already born in Crianlarich who would have expected to attend Crianlarich Nursery for their 3 to 5 funded ELC entitlement, until they reach school age.

As a result of the approval Stirling Council is required under section 15(2) and (2A) of the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 to notify Scottish Ministers of this decision. This has been enacted on 26 September 2024.

Members of the public have until midnight on Wednesday 16 October 2024 to make representations to Scottish Ministers regarding this decision. This can be done via email:
