Letter to parents on Industrial action 26 to 28 September

Dear Parent / Carer

UNISON have notified Stirling Council of planned strike action from Tuesday 26 September until Thursday 28 September 2023. A further pay offer was made and rejected on Thursday 14 September, and it now seems likely that the strike action will go ahead.

This action involves staff who provide catering, cleaning, janitorial and admin support in our schools and nurseries. It also includes staff who support children and young people in schools and provide early learning and childcare in nurseries.

Following a risk assessment process and taking into consideration the number of UNISON members at each establishment, many schools and nurseries will not be able to open on these three days.

However, some schools and nurseries will be open or partially open to pupils. Your child’s school will directly provide more information to you about their specific plans.

Even if your child’s school or nursery is open, school meals may not be provided. Free school meal provision for all entitled children will be made in the form of a payment.

Information on any specific changes in other aspects of service delivery will be provided directly by your child’s school or nursery.

We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause and appreciate your understanding at this time. This situation remains fluid and we will let you know should the situation change.

All schools and nurseries will reopen as normal on Friday 29 September 2023.

Yours sincerely
Bryony Monaghan
Head of Education and Chief Education Officer
