Project background

In support of the community-led Balfron Active Places project, an extensive period of community engagement and consultation was undertaken between February and October 2019 to develop active travel and streetscape improvement proposals into detailed design projects reflective of the views of stakeholders.

The final developed designs, which have been approved by the Balfron Community Council, Stirling Council and Sustrans Scotland, are reflective of this robust consultation process.

Construction: Phase OneThe improvement works to The Clachan and Printers Row are scheduled to start on 28 September 2020 and will last approximately ten weeks, subject to Covid-19 instructions. We will ensure that any significant changes to this programme will be provided to the local community and other key stakeholders.

At certain points in this programme to ensure the safe passage of pedestrians and vehicular traffic there will be traffic management diversions in place, which will include temporary traffic lights and may on occasions also include temporary road closures.

Details of the diversions are provided below and will also be shared with the Balfron Community Council, as well as publicised via Stirling Council social media. The appropriate traffic management signage will also be erected in the village.

Traffic Management Diversion Plan

At certain points in this programme to ensure the safe passage of pedestrians and vehicular traffic there will be traffic management diversions in place, initially consisting of:

The closure of Spoker’s Loan from its junction with Buchanan Street (The Clachan) to its junction with Weavers Winnel from 08:45 hours until 15:00 hours, Monday to Friday, from 28 September 2020 until 4 December 2020. With the exception of 12 October 2020 to 23 October 2020 when it will be closed from 08:00 hours until 16:00 hours, Monday to Friday.

An alternative route is available via Buchanan Street, Cotton Street, Spokers Loan and vice versa.

Please note that temporary 3 way traffic lights will also be operational each day Monday to Friday.

Next Steps

During the subsequent financial years of 2021/22 and 2022/23, and dependent on funding, it is our ambition to implement the improvements to Buchanan Street North and then Buchanan Street South.

Prior to these works being undertaken, we will be contacting residents and businesses, as well as the Balfron Community Council and other key stakeholders.
