The Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) is a £3.1 million project that will run until March 2026. It's funded by:
- Historic Environment Scotland
- Stirling Council
The scheme covers a specific zone within the Stirling Town and Royal Park Conservation Area.
Main aims
The central purpose of the scheme is to:
- provide grants so that people can regenerate the historic properties they own or rent
- improve public spaces by regenerating historic elements
The scheme will also support:
- the restoration of Stirling Arcade and the Alhambra Theatre
- work to make John Cowane's House a community resource and visitor attraction
- improvements to historic aspects of the public realm
Benefits of the scheme
Through this programme of grants and financial support, the scheme will help to:
- restore and preserve historic properties
- develop advice on management and maintenance of the historic environment
- encourage community engagement, participation and enjoyment of local built heritage
- encourage and promote energy efficiency improvements of the historic properties and sustainability of the historic environment
- improve the range and quality of local conservation skills
- support the council’s regeneration programme and contribute to the positive transformation of Stirling city centre
- raise awareness of local history and heritage
