A guide to the service we provide you.
This can depend on a variety of factors, some of which are out with our control, therefore we cannot guarantee response times.
The time we take to respond can depend on:
- number of applications we are processing at that time.
- staff availability.
- the information submitted is accurate and complete.
Your application is checked for compliance with the Building Standards.
If it does not demonstrate compliance, we will not issue a Building Warrant and this can cause you a delay.
We do not tell you how to comply, as this is your responsibility.
Delay times can be reduced if you understand the Scottish Building Procedure Regulations and the Scottish Building Standards.
Applications for Building Warrant
In most cases, we will provide you with a technical response, or issue the Building Warrant, as applicable within 20 working days from receipt of your valid application.
In some cases, this will result in a 'customer agreement' between you and us where the performance outcomes, including the target first response period, will be specifically agreed.
Other than those applications covered by a 'customer agreement' (if you have not received a technical response, or a Building Warrant, as applicable, within 35 working days from receipt of your valid application) you have the right to request a resolution to the matter. This may be done, in the first instance, by contacting our Building Standards Team Leader. You may also contact the Building Standards Division of the Scottish Government.
Completion Certificates
Response times for Acceptance of Completions are under review at the moment and will be updated within 6 months of the data being available.
However, we do aim to give an initial response to 90% of all completion certificates within 10 working days of receipt. An initial response will be either a telephone call to arrange a site visit or a site visit.
