Stirling’s young people hail SQA exam results for 2024

Young people in the Stirling area have welcomed today’s SQA results as they consider exciting next steps in education, employment and training.

A group of seven young people, in school uniforms, look at their exam certificates as they each pull them from brown envelopes.
The young people of Stirling High School were among many across the local area to receive their exam results today.

Initial analysis indicates the percentage of Stirling's learners achieving five awards at National 5 level by the end of S5 has increased this year. The percentage of learners achieving either one or five Highers by the end of S6 has also improved.

In addition to the SQA awards, young people have also enjoyed success in a wide range of vocational courses being delivered at both school and college.

As Stirling celebrates its 900th anniversary, pupils at Stirling High School – which can also trace its roots back to the 12th century – were among hundreds of young people across the local area to receive their results on Tuesday morning.

Cllr Margaret Brisley, Convener of the Children and Young People Committee, said: “These results highlight the positive learning environment across all our secondary schools in the Stirling area.

“They are a testament to the hard work and commitment of our amazing young people – and the support, dedication and professionalism of our fantastic teachers, school staff, parents and carers.

Advice

“A new range of positive pathways will now open up for many of our young people in employment, further education or training.

“However, we also understand that some pupils may not have achieved the results they had hoped for and might be feeling worried or anxious at this time.

“Our message to them is that we’re here for you and a wide range of supports are available, from advice on next steps to accessing a talk with someone about how you are feeling. Trained staff are here to listen and offer every guidance possible.”

Stirling High School Head Teacher, Alasdair MacLeod, and Stirling Council's Head of Education, Bryony Monaghan, praised young people for their exam efforts this year.
