We have put together a quick guide with some of the key things you need to be aware of on polling day, including the requirement to show photo ID when voting at polling stations.

Photo ID requirement

The election will be the first time the Scottish electorate will be asked to use ID to vote at a polling station. Make sure you have an accepted form of photo ID or your Voter Authority Certificate with you before you go to your polling place.

Accepted forms of photo ID include a passport, driving licence, older person’s or disabled person’s bus pass and Young Scot card.

Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo. The full list of ID is available at www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voterID

If you arrive at a polling place without an accepted form of photo ID, you will be asked to return with ID that can be accepted.

A private area will be available should you choose to have your photo ID viewed in private. This might be a separate room, or an area separated by a privacy screen, depending on the polling station.

Voter ID requirement information in other formats is available from the Electoral Commission including audio, Braille, BSL, easy read, plain text: www.electoralcommission.org.uk/resources/democratic-engagement-resources/voter-id-resources-generic

Polling stations

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 4 July.

When you vote in person, you go to the polling place allocated to you based on your address.

Before you go to vote, check where your polling place is. It might not be the closest one to where to you live, and it might have changed since the last time you voted. You have to go to your allocated polling place, and you can't go to a different one close to where you work, for example.

Your polling place will be on your poll card, which you will have received through the post a few weeks before polling day.

You can find the location of all the polling stations in the Stirling and Strathallan constituency by following this link. (add link)

Postal voting

All postal votes in the Stirling and Strathallan constituency have been delivered.

Once a voter has been issued a postal vote, they must use this method to cast their vote at this election. To cancel a postal vote arrangement, the voter must have done this by 5pm on Wednesday 19 June.

On polling day (4 July), voters have the option of handing in their completed postal pack to any polling station in the Stirling and Strathallan constituency or at the reception at Old Viewforth, Stirling, between 7am and 10pm.

They can also ask someone to hand their ballot pack in on their behalf. Voters can hand in a maximum of five postal ballots in addition to their own.  Anyone handing in postal votes will be required to complete a form when doing so.

For postal voters who have not received their postal vote, the only provision available to them is to request a replacement postal vote from the Returning Officer.

To do this, they will need to go to Old Viewforth, Stirling, between 9am and 5pm until Thursday July 4 (polling day), when they will be able to collect and complete a replacement postal vote and hand it in.  If voters are able to phone us (01786 233068) before they come in, then this should make the process easier and quicker on arrival.  Voters should bring ID that confirms their name and address.

Proxy Voting

The person you have appointed as your proxy will need to go to your polling station to cast your vote.

They will have received a proxy poll card telling them where and when to vote on your behalf.

At UK Parliament elections your proxy will need to show their own photo ID when voting in the polling station on your behalf.

You can still vote in person if you have a proxy vote, but only if you do so before your proxy has voted for you.
