The new permits will come into effect on 14 April 2025, with Councillors confirming at this year’s budget-setting meeting last Thursday (27th February) that the price of permit will increase slightly, from £50 to £52.
The price of Garden Waste Permits for Stirling Council residents is in line with many other local authorities in Scotland and averages £2 per uplift.
More than 19,000 permits were purchased last year and collection calendars were recently sent to residents giving details of how to apply for permits, along with details of the new change to waste schedules, which takes effect from tomorrow (Tuesday, 4 March).
Some households, including those in receipt of a council tax reduction, will receive the garden waste permit for free as part of a concession scheme. The Council will send out permits to anyone eligible by 14 April 2025.
Challenges
Convener of the Environment, Transport and Net Zero committee, Cllr Jen Preston, said:
“Stirling Council, like almost all local authorities across Scotland, continues to face tough financial challenges, highlighted at our budget setting meeting last week.
“We’ve worked hard to keep the price increase of the waste permit for 2025/26 to a minimum, in line with inflation.
“We also rejected a proposal at budget setting to remove waste permit concessions and we are pleased to continue to offer them to eligible residents. Almost 7,000 householders across the Stirling area will also be entitled to free permits as part of our concession scheme and will receive them directly.”
The cost of a permit remains the same regardless of when it is bought, so residents are encouraged to purchase as early as possible to ensure they get maximum benefit.
The permit allows residents to have garden waste collected in the same bin as their food waste, every two weeks. Those who do not purchase a permit will still have food waste collected in the brown bin, for free, every two weeks.
Permits purchased before 28 March 2025 will be delivered before the service starts. Permit applications made after 28 March 2025 are not guaranteed for delivery before 14 April 2025.
