Callander-based Kingshouse Travel, which has operated on the route for 28 years, has cited challenges with driver recruitment for its decision not to renew its contract for the Council-supported service.
The C60 operates up to five times a day from Monday to Saturday along the A84 and through communities that also include Strathyre, Lochearnhead and Lix Toll.
The council opened the route up to tender in September last year, but received no responses from potential operators. A further tender process in January attracted one bidder, but their offer was considered significantly over budget and proposed a significantly reduced service.
A report will be brought to a future Council meeting to review options going forward and costs associated with them. This will include options for the Council to operate a service directly, or agree that a service will not be provided, as this is not a statutory requirement.
Importance
Cllr Jen Preston, convener of the Environment, Transport and Net Zero committee, said: “Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to find a cost efficient alternative operation for the service, following the withdrawal of Kingshouse Travel.
“Although we do not have a statutory obligation to provide a service, we acknowledge the importance of the C60 bus route to our communities along the A84.
“I would like to apologise to people who have relied on the C60 service from Kingshouse and now face a break in the operation of the service.
“We have explored all options to keep the route going because we know people rely on it for travelling to and from work, for leisure and other appointments.
“We will continue our dialogue and engagement with communities affected and users of the C60 service in the weeks ahead as we explore options for the way forward.”
Although the C60 service will formally cease from the 31st March there are a number of transport opportunities still in place. These includes: Direct Responsive Transport (DRT), remaining service bus links, Killin and District Volunteer Car Scheme (KDVCS), lift share, and a term-time school bus provision.
