Catering in schools
Facilities Management Catering Services provides school meals for:
- 6 secondary schools
- 38 primary schools
- 1 Secondary Support Unit
- 1 Primary Support Unit
We have sole catering rights within schools and also deliver meals to Lunch Clubs and offer Civic catering within Council offices.
We are dedicated to providing appetising and nutritious meals for schools and older people and work in partnership with Education and NHS Forth Valley to provide suitable menus for people with special dietary needs.
Our menus conform to The Health (Promotion and Nutrition) (Scotland) Act 2007 and we have achieved the Food for Life Silver award from the Soil Association. Working with the Soil Association, we are committed to changing the present convenience food culture and reconnecting young people with freshly prepared food and its source.
Primary and Secondary Schools
Our menus are seasonal, Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter.
The ticket price for a primary lunch is £2.20 and is FREE for all P1 to P3 pupils.
The current secondary ticket price is £2.50 for a pupil meal and £4 for an adult meal.
The current primary menu is on a 3-week cycle and 4 weekly for secondary schools. This allows us to offer more popular menu items and provide balanced, nutritious lunches based on current healthy eating guidelines.
Fresh bread, seasonal salads, milk and water are available each day. Yoghurt and fresh fruit are always available as an alternative to the pudding.
We believe that any child who has special dietary needs should be able to choose to have a school meal and be appropriately catered for. We have worked in partnership with Forth Valley Health Services and Education to produce guidance on the different types of special diets which may be required. The Council Policy and Guidance to Educational Establishments on the Provision of Medically Prescribed Diets, contains guidance for parents/guardians and staff and also Special Diet Referral forms. This form must be completed and renewed every school year.
Special Diet Menus for Primary Schools
If you have any concerns about your child's dietary needs, please contact your Head Teacher who will be happy to discuss requirements with you and the school Catering team. A menu plan can be organised along with NHS dieticians.
During 2015/16 we held a competition for pupils from all secondary schools to involve them and let them tell us what kind of foodservice they would like. The winning team was from Stirling High and we worked with them to create the new Fresco brand. Food from around the world is served each week and we have introduced new ways to serve pupils faster.
Free School Meals
Free School Meals are available to all Primary 1 to Primary 3 pupils.
Families on a low income or who receive income support, family credit or income-based jobseekers allowance may be entitled to free school meals.
Please note that Free school meals applications can be made at any time during the year and free meals will be provided from the date the application is approved.
If you would like any recipes from the Primary or Secondary lunch menus, please contact us.
Please note that during prolonged periods of bad weather our weekly menus may be different from planned and could vary from school to school. If you have any concerns about this, please contact your school for more information. Our catering staff will be happy to discuss the menu for the day with you to ensure that the food is suitable for your child.
Functions and Hospitality
We cater for internal functions and hospitality ranging from tea, coffee and home baking for small groups to full dinners and buffets for larger functions such as Burns Suppers and school parties. Please contact us for details of menus and price lists, which can be adapted to suit any occasion.
