Gerry McGarvey has worked throughout the UK, US, Africa and Ireland in Personal and also Community Development for the majority of his professional career.

As a trained counsellor with over 30 years’ experience in Personal Development, Gerry has used these skills and other therapeutic interventions as a practitioner with young people with a number of Third Sector agencies, and other client groups within the Public Sector including the Scottish Prison Service and a number of Local Authorities.

Gerry has also worked as part of the Learning and Development team for a national children’s charity based in Stirling, and has created, provided and delivered training programmes in organisational development for a number of national and regional voluntary sector organisations.

More recently he has worked in publishing as an editor, writer, and researcher before being elected to Stirling Council in May 2022.

Gerry is also Stirling Council’s nomination to the Board of Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park.

In September of 2024 Councillor McGarvey was appointed as the Depute Leader of Stirling Council. Councillor McGarvey is a Baillie.
