062024-1 Welcome, Apologies, and Conflicts of Interest
The Vice Chair opened and welcomed everyone to the June meeting. She was
standing in for the Chair who is currently on holiday. Apologies were given for
Stuart Meldrum, Charles Russell and Chris Burns. There were no conflicts of
interests declared.

062024-2 Adoption of minutes for previous meetings
The minutes of the April meeting were proposed by RC and seconded by SJW.
There was a discussion about previous minutes not being approved following
amendments. There are also issues with the CC email address as everyone
doesn’t have access.

062024-3 Matters Arising and Actions
There were no other matters arising from the April minutes.

062024-4 Landscape and gardening update
Scott McArthur wasn’t present at the meeting to give an update. The CC have
secured support to move the bike racks through the “Work, Cycle, live
initiative.” Currently looking at suitable locations.

062024-5 Community engagement – social media policy
A policy has been drafted and sent round everyone. Paper copies of the policy
were distributed at the meeting, and it was felt that it was clear and concise.

The proposed action is to set up a Facebook page to promote meetings of the
CC and to encourage engagement from residents.

062024-6 Community engagement – noticeboards
There are plans to have 3 or 4 noticeboards, possibly one in the precinct, one
where Cornton Road joins Bridgehaugh and one in Westhaugh. The Chair has
also written to the fisheries regarding their noticeboard at Castle Vale which
is currently unused. It was agreed that any noticeboard would need to be
lockable. There was a discussion about suitable locations and suggestions
included library, pharmacy etc.

062024-7 Residents’ voice
A local resident came along to the meeting to express his concerns about
several issues.
• He wanted to express his concerns about speeding on the corner at the top
of Strathmore Drive. He has already submitted a complaint to the police but
has not had a response.
• He has also contacted SC land services regarding public grass not being cut.
The resident has now taken it upon himself to cut the grass.
• He also wanted to raise awareness that the dog waste bin has been
removed from the grass area in Strathmore Drive and dog owners are now
leaving bags of dog waste lying around.

062024-8 Police report
3 crimes have been detected since 5th June; however, it was felt that a
meeting is required with Police Scotland as all the local crimes are not being
included in the report.

062024-9 Chair’s report
The chair wasn’t present at the meeting but did submit a report. He noted
the resignation of Crispin Bennett on 26th April 2024 and wanted to thank
him for his service to the community.
• He has been in touch with a variety of people and groups and is keen to
foster relationships particularly with local CCs. He directed people to the
Riverside CC website. They have already indicated that they are happy to
work together. Wallace High school are also keen to recommence working
together in the community and the Chair will get back in touch with them
once the new school year commences. The Chair is also liaising with the
Community Development Officer regarding funding opportunities.
He also provided an update on CC enquiries:
• Johnstone Avenue this was chased by CR in May and the Chair has sought
further information.
• Bike rack at the community centre awaiting a further response from SC.
• A request has been made for support to tidy up the area around the
community centre and to Polmaise Recycling plant regarding the
possibility of them being able to provide some free compost. The chair is
awaiting a response.
• The chair has made an enquiry about the ownership of the noticeboard
beside Castle Vale with the view of the CC adopting this noticeboard.

062024-10 Vice Chair’s report
The Vice chair thanked everyone for attending the meeting and reminded
everyone of the responsibility of the CC to make Cornton a better, cleaner
and safer place. She also provided an update on the information she had
received from residents over the last month.
• Residents have complained about issues with weeds and the condition of
roads and pavement. There are also access issues for wheelchairs and
prams due to cars parking on the road.
• There is currently a petition to save the local pharmacy. It is hoped that
the CC can get some more information on this and back the future of the
pharmacy.
• There is still ongoing issue with McGill’s bus service, and it was felt that
someone from McGill’s should be invited to a future meeting to discuss the
service.

062024-11 Treasurer’s report
The accounts for the last financial year have now been audited. It was agreed
that the CC were happy to provide payment to Karen Kiowski. Barrels have
been purchased for flowers and the Treasurer has shown receipts to the
Chair. Snacks and drinks were also bought for the Mini Bino’s. The treasurer
passed the receipt for this to the Vice Chair.
There was a discussion about the CC holding funds for another organisation
and a request to release the funds to them. It was agreed that the CC would
follow this up to find out who submitted the funding application and the
name of the organisation that the grant was applied for.

062024-12 Secretary’s report
The secretary only took over the role last month and there are still issues
accessing the CC email. There was a discussion about the other partners who
should be CCs into the CC minutes.

062024-13 Planning and licensing
CR wasn’t present at the meeting and no report was provided.

062024-14 AOCB
• There was a discussion about liaising with other CCs and it was agreed
that everyone was happy with this. There was a discussion about working
alongside Riverside and Cambuskenneth to support local issues
• Cars are still parking on the yellow lines at Johnstone Avenue and it was
highlighted that new legislation around pavement parking comes into
force on 15th July 2024.
• There have been issues with the temporary traffic light at the junction at
Johnston Avenue. It was highlighted that the CC were not informed of
this prior to the work starting.
• Castle Rock tenants received a letter advising that properties would be
inspected however the letters arrived after the inspection date. The
ongoing issues with rats in Cornton was also highlighted and it was felt
that after the election local councillors should be invited to Cornton for a
walk around.
• There are also still issues with unmuzzled XL Bullies

Next meeting
The next meeting will be on the 31st of July, 2024 at 7pm in the Cornton Community Centre
