Police
No police presence however they did issue a report. Crime reports for Braehead and Broomridge between 28 July – 25 August 2024. Detected cases 4, undetected 7. There were also 165 calls to the police regarding matters such as disturbances, theft, domestic incident, anti-social behaviour, drugs misuse and road traffic.
Hugh commented that the report is extremely statistical not really explaining or updating on local issues. The new community Police Officer has a large area to cover. The Chair has previously mentioned that he would contact Police Scotland to discuss ongoing issues. While we wait for this meeting Jamie suggested inviting the officer directly to attend meetings to discuss the situation.
Lesley raised an issue from one of her neighbours regarding a supervised party where unfortunately another neighbour called on Police to attend. There seems to be a long-standing issue, and the question was asked about what the options are. It was suggested that the neighbour contacts the Community Safety Team and Police Scotland to discuss this matter further.
Superglass – report received via email
Noise:
We are continuing to investigate improvements. We hope to make some improvements next year as part of major engineering works (I can provide updates on this as we get nearer the time).
I have been contacted by the complainant and provided them with an update. I have also extended an invitation to them to come to site.
Other:
No incidents or complaints since last meeting.
There will be some engineering projects taking place between 5th and 14th September, but this will have no impact on our neighbours. One line will be down so the factory may sound a bit quieter.
Laptop:
Our IT have released a laptop. You can either collect from the factory or I can drop it of at a suitable address (this offer of a laptop from Superglass is to assist the community council and is for community council work only).
Let me know if you would like to come to site. Our Charity Committee would be keen to talk to you to understand where you think Superglass could help the local community.
- General Business
Pedestrian Crossing
The crossing at the top of Shirra's Brae/Kirk Wynd – there is an issue with the timing of this crossing. It has been raised with Councillor McLaughlan. Jamie will email Stephen Bly on this matter.
2
Defib Status/New Location
It has been highlighted about lack of defibrillator near Shirra’s Brae/Pelstream Avenue. Jamie confirmed he will advise where the nearest one is. Lesley mentioned that Cambusbarron has a defibrillator via the Mountain Rescue, and they also maintain it. The Mayfield Centre does not have one.
Lesley confirmed that the batteries for the current defibrillators are running down and will need to be replaced although not straight away. They have a 5-year life span. The last time a quote was obtained for these was back in February and the batteries cost £233.33 each. Jamie discussed whether it may be possible to raise money with local businesses. He will write to Stephen Bly about this. Question regarding warranty plans were raised however Lesley confirmed that this is not needed as they are on a circuit system. A supply of pads is always needed. Superglass may be able to assist with funding for these items. To be discussed further.
Afton Court Park
Lesley volunteered to meet the gentleman from the council (James Aikman) regarding refurbishment of the large slide due to safety issues. The refurbishment will be like for like and Lesley will be sent information on the slide.
Flyers/Leaflet Drops
Jamie brought samples in for review. Consensus of opinion was the lighter coloured one was preferred providing colour blindness is covered. Jamie has received two quotes so far. Also look at leaflets to be put on the noticeboards. Need to put on the leaflets where they can be dropped off e.g. mini market/Book Shed. Consider setting up metal boxes at the noticeboards so that leaflets can be dropped off there. Boxes can be purchased direct from Screw Fix.
ASB Colquhoun Street
Issues with general vandalism. Lesley spoke with a resident in the street recently who complained about the football event and the community garden event being on at the same time. Hugh raised the issue about residents struggling to park when people are using the street to park in when they work in the city centre. Hugh will ask about parking wardens coming round.
Resident in Calder Court has an issue regarding getting a mobility bay. The resident using a mobility scoter and has issues getting out due to other vehicles. Asked for a mobility bay but has been advised that as Calder Court already has one, they are unable to have another. Advise resident to speak with local councillor to resolve.
With regard to the anti-social behaviour that is happening Hugh will take this up with Police Scotland and the organisation Change, Grow, Live.
AOCB
Hugh wanted to put an advert out regarding Council Housing/Community Safety Open Day
at the Albert Hall on 20 September beginning at 10am.
3
Lesley raised the issue of dog fouling and unmuzzled XL Bully Dogs – advised to contact
Dog Warden and Police.
Asked the Braehead and Broomridge resident what made them come to the meeting and
did they have any comments? Resident interested in seeing what the community council
does. They have been involved in raising money for the local church and started the Book
Shed.
Meeting closed at 21:00 hrs.
Next meeting will be held on Wednesday 25 September @19:00hrs.
