Stirling 900 – People
The Document of the Month for January 2025 celebrates the people of the Stirling area.
There is a tendency to focus on notable events when commemorating historical anniversaries, and these tend to involve figures that have been notorious in some way. It is also important to remember that history is not just about the actions of the famous and influential. Ordinary people make history, and are the most important factor in how an area grows and develops. Through the past 900 years and even before that, the people of the Stirling area have been going about their everyday lives, just as we do, and, collectively, have had an effect on the history of the locality. These people had hopes, dreams and ambitions, and even though they may have worn different clothes and had different occupations to those that we have today, in essence they would have been very similar to you and me.
This post is dedicated to the people of the Stirling area and the mark that they left upon our shared history. It features some of the images we have of individual people in our collections.
Many of the records held at the Council Archives reflect the lives of ordinary people as well as the well to do and powerful. If you are interested in local or family history, a visit to the Archives is always worth considering. Who knows what you might find.
