How do I join?

  • Visit the library of you wish to join. Joining is Free. You don't have to live in the Stirling Council area to join our libraries.
  • Fill out a membership form and produce two current (and recent) forms of identification to verify your name, address and signature
  • Children under 16 years old need a parent/guardian to sign their form
  • Your card can be used in all community libraries in the Stirling Council Area.
    Registration is also required for computer usage
  • If you lose your card, let library staff know immediately as you are responsible for items borrowed on your card
  • A charge is made for a replacement card
  • Users who join at the Raploch Xpress will need to have their membership card updated for use at other libraries

What you can do when you join?

  • Borrow books, DVDs, CDs and e-resources such as ebooks, eaudiobooks, emagazines, enewspapers and ecomics
  • Use library PCs and access online resources 24/7

What does it cost?

  • Everything can be borrowed for free except for DVDs

How long can I keep them?

  • Books and eresources can be kept for 3 weeks
  • CDs can be kept for 1 week (Central Library only)
  • DVDs can be kept for 1 week or 2 weeks for box sets

What should I do if I want to keep the Items longer, or can't get to the library?

  • Renew online
  • Telephone or call in to any community library and renew your items

If I keep items longer and don't renew them, what happens?

  • You will be charged fines on the items. Children are not charged
  • Book and CD fines are charged daily
  • DVDs are charged according to hire period
  • E-resources such as ebooks have no fines
  • Charges are on display in the libraries

Does everyone have to pay fines on late items?

  • Yes, except for children but we do offer a renewal service by telephone, online or by text. We will also send you a courtesy reminder email in advance of the due date, if we have your email address. Please ask staff for details

Do borrowed items have to go back to the same Library, or can I return them to any?

  • You can return items to another library in the Stirling Council Area if you wish

I am not interested in books; does the Library have anything to offer me?

  • The Library service lends, CDs, DVDs, talking books and language courses
  • All community libraries offer word-processing and Internet access 
    (These can be booked with the library involved)
  • e-resources, such as emagazines, enewspapers and ecomics

What do I do if the material I want is not immediately available?

  • You can use the request service (this is free of charge)
  • Books, journal articles and music scores can be borrowed through the Inter-Library Loan Service (There is a charge for this)
  • Ask library staff for further details
