Coronavirus Business Support Fund

What is it?

The Scottish Government Coronavirus Business Support Fund is now available to help businesses deal with the impact of COVID-19.  This fund is being administered by local authorities.

These grants are aimed at helping keep companies in business and keep productive capacity so that they can recover. Their intention is to protect job, prevent business closure and promote economic recovery.

Grants available

Businesses can now apply for a cash grants of £10,000 or £25,000 subject to fulfilling certain criteria:

  • £10,000 grant awarded to all small firms receiving a relief detailed below;
  • £25,000 grants for hospitality, leisure and retail properties with a rateable value between £18,000 and £51,000.


Application for a one-off £10,000 grant available for the ratepayers of properties which had a rateable value of £18,000 or less.  This is only available if they were the ratepayer for a premises occupied for that business use on the 17th March 2020 and in receipt of any of the following;

  • The Small Business Bonus Scheme (SBBS)
  • Rural Relief
  • eligible for SBBS but in receipt of Nursery Relief, Disabled Relief, Charitable Relief, Sports Relief, Enterprise Area Relief, Fresh Start or Business Growth Accelerator Relief.


A separate one-off grant of £25,000 is available to the ratepayers of businesses in the Retail, Hospitality, Leisure sectors operating in a premises with a rateable value of £18,001 or up to £50,999. This is the rateable value as of the 17th March 2020 regardless of any subsequent reduction in rateable value due to an appeal. This is only available if they were the ratepayer for a premises occupied for that business use on the 17th March 2020.


From 5 May 2020, new arrangements will enable ratepayers with multiple business properties which meet the eligibility criteria to receive additional grant(s). Details can be found here.

Eligible ratepayers can apply for a one-off grant payment of £10,000 or £25,000 and additional grants if they have multiple business premises which meet the criteria.

Applications will be processed in date and time order. It is your responsibility to submit your application based on the properties you own and the value of the grant you are applying for.

The deadline for applications to the Business Support Fund is the 31st March 2021.

Stirling Council will review your application and assess if you are eligible for the grant.

Please note that we will prioritise getting payments to businesses as quickly as possible, with the target that all eligible businesses will be paid within 10 working days of receipt of application.
