Stirling Council's Winter Maintenance Policy prioritises which roads and footpaths receive the appropriate treatment during adverse weather.  The Council prepares a plan of action, setting out how it intends to treat ice and snow in accordance with this Policy.

The Roads Teams use a priority system during adverse weather which allows main roads and core routes to be treated first.

See below for more information.

Priority One Routes

These roads receive precautionary salting and are roads which have a cumulative daily flow of more than 800 vehicles a day, including roads to Emergency Services establishments.

These routes shall receive precautionary salt treatment between 5.30am and midnight and;

Clearance of snow accumulations 24 hrs per day.
• The treatment of ice formations 24 hrs per day.

The Winter Service comprises the following types of treatment:
  • Precautionary Salt Treatment

Winter is a very busy time for the NHS, especially over the festive season. Please help by only attending the Emergency Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital if you have a serious illness or injury which requires urgent treatment. Your local pharmacy, Minor Injuries Unit or GP practice can also provide advice and treatment for many common health problems - see attached leaflet for details
